How about - NO more weekend events until the GWEN preview?
Whenever there is talk that a certain event sucked - the lovely guys at A.net (well a gal actually) drop(s) the same old question:
"The events aren't necessary and we don't need to do them! Now - would you rather have them OR not?"
And of course as every normal consumer - If we can get something for free we take it - we'd always say that we'd rather have boring events (with the possibility of a good one!) then nothing!
(Yes I am aware that one can not like all events, and I really don't have a problem with that - there are 2 events I like - the AFK games and double (or is it triple?) drop rate of greens! The rest doesn't interest me - but i have no problem with others attending them or liking them. BUT they are still boring to me - hence the usage of the word!)
And that kind of thinking is very nice - as long as it doesn't have any drawbacks! And currently - there is once silly little persistent drawback that is magnified during the weekends!
The lag become unbearable!
There are problems during the week also - but it seems that it seems this gets multiplied during the weekend! Now - i am aware that more players have time to play so the events can't be only to blame - BUT if the events are being executed every weekend - that means that A.net has to have some data which make the weekends worthwhile in terms of attracting enough players. And I am fully aware that a game like GW NEEDS players to stay interested - and this is a good way to do it - if it works!
But currently - the drawbacks - constant lagging, disconnects, not being able to enter certain outposts ARE FAR GREATER then the bonus some of us get from the weekend!
So in light of that - might I propose that the weekend events are discontinued until the GWEN preview OR until the issues are fixed (depending on which one is sooner of course!)?
Because the weekend events aren't something one looks forward but they are starting to become something one dreads as they are rarely interesting AND the the impact they have is mostly negative!
Thanks!
(This of course is based on the assumption that the problem is connected with the amount of people playing and the assumption that the events actually bring in some players! If it's false - I'd love to be corrected on it!)

I don't think the lag was coming from the share mass of people joining in events, but the mishap at the Frankfurt data center. Thursday I was lagging with an average of 60000 ms. This weekend it was virtually no lag. So no thx, let's keep the events rolling.
ps Gaile can we have a double LB and Sunspearpoints weekend? I still have some titles to max out

I do love the weekend events, please don't stop them! I really enjoyed the triple green weekends (hint hint elona). Sadly with the last elona green weekend, it was about a week after a release and I was barely off the noob island. I hope to see it again before GW:EN.

I live on the other side of the planet, if I lag during weekends its usually not for too long.
Sometimes people get heavy lag and blame event, anet server, there isp etc. I found after running antispyware material, defragging that GW runs with alot less lag.
I dont think ending event weekends will really solve the lag issue. I dont doubt the weekends cause lag sometimes within their own domain but it wouldnt affect EVERY aspect of the game.
EG. Log in, go to RA, ping reads 34 000 MS took me like 1-2 mins to go to RA. YIKES! Go to LA, Kaineng, play all night PvE, not one little bounce of lag. So the event is probably not making other aspects of the game lag, but would perhaps affect periodically the event target itself.

The recent lag was caused by issues with some german connection or something.
I think your thinking of "festivals" which are much grander things and attract much more attention. And the last one was a complete hash because it lasted 2 days instead of a week.
This means hundreds of players in one location rushing to take part, instead of spanning it accross days.
"Events" are usually fine because not everyone is bothered about them. Events are specialised things that a select part of the community are interested in, such as double faction in PvP.
But without events players would get bored and move on, and maybe not come back. Anet doesnt want to loose its fan-base during the months before GW:ENs release.

I personally like the Holiday events but the weekends such as 3X the normal drop rate kinda ruin the whole "market" of GW (if i may) becuase it just fills the market with a surplus of the same goods in which no one can make profit and people exhaust the weekends by setting up bots or over farming and there is no value in items that they farm for that the certain weekend benifited and in turns some people mad or upset they can't make any money from the time they put into farming. So all in all keep the Holiday events (even though people try and exploit each other on the holiday items) but cut back on the triple drop weekends spare the eco a little please . Just my take on this topic.

festivals generally cause alot of lag but not the weekend events. Especially this time when they had network problems
i dont see why they should stop the events, its just an extra bit of fun and rewards. like many things they dont have to actually do this BUT they want to. What's your problem with extra rewards, there isnt any negative aspects ofa weekend event really

So in agame that was and still is based around the ideal of not having to overly work to get max wapons and max armour... items dropping more ruins the "economy", an economy that is player driven and completely unfounded?

I would be perfectly happy if there were no more weekend events until GW:EN. I have a lot to do readying my characters for the new expansion...and when there is a PvE weekend event I feel compelled to attend it. PvP events however, I don't care about, as i tend not to attend those...but I could easily live without events until the release of GW:EN.

Don't forget that it appears that ANET can't do anything directly about the lag, so its not like they are wasting the resources they could use to fix it.
Besides its always fun to try and guess what ANET will come up with for the next weekend.

I don't know if I was clear enough - since I don't see anything special up to GWEN preview event - as in a festival or something else that would take much preparation - so events like that are out of the discussion here.
I am only talking about stuff like - double points, double drops, double whatever. The talk is only about stuff that can be done every day - so if one enjoys it - once can do it on a Monday or a Saturday. The only difference is that on a Monday you get a 1 point (5% chance of getting something) and on Saturday one gets 2 points (10% chance). (of course the numbers are completely made up and offer just for a more visual presentation!)
The only point was - since the weekends are the time the most people (that i know of) are having the most lag-related issues - and since there isn't much the users can do about it - if they feel that dropping the double weekend events MIGHT help - I am willing to make that sacrifice!
Clearly I am not doing this out of the kindness of my heart - I want a lag-free game that I am used to! But this is something I can give away without making my gaming experience any worse - if it helps them.
If the problem can't be lessened with this - then keep the events!
It was just me trying to think of something pro-active rather then just make another "OMG!!1 I lagged so badly I couldn't interrupt a MS!1!1! FIX IT!11!! NOW!11!!!"-thread - so I offered this for discussion!

The main point is that it wouldnt remove lag from the game. Even if they removed any events or festivals until GW:EN preview or full game, you will still have some people getting lag.
How would we then fix that lag?
And what about after GW:EN? should we put the events back in or keep them out?
This wont fix lag for everyone, and it might not even be the cause of lag.

Wait is this a proposal to stop the weekend events so that less people want to play to help reduce lag for those are are experiencing it?
That sounds like a weird suggestion!
